Dayara Bugyal Trek, Uttrakhand
Elevated at an altitude of 12000 ft in the Garhwal region of Uttarakhand, Dayara Bugyal is the second most beautiful meadow in India ( after Bedni Bugyaul).
The trek is graded as an easy Trek which lasts for about 6 days covering a distance of 7 km. The trail takes you through the flower sprung meadows, grasslands, lovely forest cover with rich biodiversity.
Dayara Bugyal trek is among the best winter treks in the Himalayas, with snow all around and stunning views of Mt Bandarpoonch, Mt Kalanag and, Gangotri extension adds to the charm of the trek.
Despite being an easy trek, this one is not so popular among Himalayan treks but if you want to have a lifetime experience, this trek is a must-try.
Nag Tibba Trek, Dehradun
Another best winter Trek to do in the Himalayas is the Nag Tibba Trek. Standing at an altitude of 9,915 ft near Dehradun, Nag Tibba is also known as ‘Serpent’s Peak’.
This trek is an easy one that lasts for about 3 days covering a distance of 19km. The trail takes you through the rich biodiversity and blesses you with the astonishing views of Bandarpoonch peak, the Gangotri group of peaks, Kedarnath and, Srikanth peak.
Nag Tibba being the highest peak in the lower Himalayan region allows exploring the alluring forest of Oak, cider, Alpine and Rhododendron. You can opt for this trek throughout the year but the best time remains the winter season (December -March).
Kedarkantha Trek, Uttrakhand
Kedarkantha trek is among the most beautiful and exciting treks in the Himalayan region that is often ignored by the trekkers but trust me by the end of this trek you will be amazed.
Elevated at an altitude of 12,500 ft Kedarkantha is a mountain peak of the Himalayas in the state of Uttarakhand located within the Govind wildlife sanctuary.
The trek is one of the famous winter treks to do in the Indian Himalayas. Kedarkantha trek starts from Sankri in Uttrakhand taking you through beautiful campsites,360- degree view of mountains, snow-covered pine forest. This trek lasts 5 days covering a distance of 23 kilometers.
Kedarkantha is beautiful throughout the year but winters are the best time for this trek. The trek allows you to witness the mesmerizing views of Swargarohini peak, Black Peak and Bandarpoonch peak and snowfall( from December to February). Kedarkantha is also of mythological importance so it is suitable for both devotees and adventure lovers.
Prashar Lake Trek, Himachal Pradesh
Another lesser-known trek in the Himalayan region is the Prashar Lake Trek, it is an easy trek that leads you to an elevation of 8956 ft after trekking for 16km in 2days.
The lake gets its name from the sage Parashara who mediated at the Lake, the beautiful ranges of Dhauladhar range and the local inhabitants around the trail will make your trekking experience even more delightful.
Except for monsoon you can opt for this track throughout the year however, the winter season remains the most suitable time.
Starting from base camp at Baggi, the snow-covered trail of this trek will get you to the sacred Temple devoted to sage Prashar. The changing colours of the divine lake and the excellent weather add more charm to your trekking experience.
Auden’s Col Trek, Uttrakhand
Another underrated Himalayan Trek is Auden’s Col trek
Auden’s Col Trek is considered to be the most challenging and unexplored trek in the Garhwal Himalayas of Uttarakhand. The trek lasts for about 13-16 days and it begins from Gangotri(270 km from Dehradun) which is located on the banks of the Bhagirathi river. Auden’s Col is a high mountain pass situated at an altitude of 5490 m that connects Jogin 1 and Gangotri peak
This trek is for experienced trekker and it should never be underestimated as it is very challenging and there are various dangerous ridges, boulder sections on the long and difficult trial that takes the trekker through inspiring views of the group of peaks like the Jogin group, Rudragaira group, Kedar dome and so on.
The preferred way to reach the campsite at Gangotri is to drive from Dehradun (270km)and the best time for this trek is the month of June.
