Ducati Scrambler 1100: A Bigger, Faster Addition to the Scrambler Range

The original Scrambler 800 was a great bike and was loved by many, but the suspension was a little too firm, the throttle was too aggressive, and above all, it didn’t quite have the fit and finish levels to justify its price tag. The Scrambler 1100 promises to be better in all these aspects, while also costing that bit more. The bigger Scrambler offers a lot more, and comes in a Sport variant which costs the most.

Engine

Packed neatly within the frame is a 1079cc, twin-cylinder engine that produces 83.2bhp and 88Nm of torque. The motor is air-cooled and comes paired to a 6-speed manual transmission. The Ducati Scrambler 1100 is BSIV-compliant.

Specifications

The Scrambler 1100 is a rather unique motorcycle as far as the looks are concerned. The headlamp works very efficiently and there’s a massive improvement in the quality, compared to its smaller sibling. The handlebar, brake/clutch levers and the switchgear are of good quality. The styling is very minimalist, and the LCD display is off-set towards the right. The 1100 looks identical to the 800, but is much bigger. The saddle is wider too. The engine casing gets a premium finish and the rear subframe is in polished aluminium. The dual underseat exhaust looks very cool too. The machine finished alloy wheels look sporty and the bike gets an optional Termignoni exhaust. The instrument console features a side stand warning, gear position indicator, traction control, speedometer, trip meter, fuel gauge, tachometer and clock. In terms of dimensions, the Scrambler 1100 is 2190mm in length, 895mm in width and 1330mm in height. This 2-valve engine shares some of its components with the Ducati Monster 1100. The nature of the engine is typically that of a 90-degree Ducati L-twin. The clutch is well weighted and there’s a lot of torque on offer. The motor is smooth in the rev range but once the revs rise, the vibrations can be felt. The motor pulls effortlessly however. The Srambler 1100 is quick and easy to ride. Throttle response is great too. At 206kgs, the bike’s weight is manageable. The ground clearance, on the other hand, is 182mm, while the bike has a wheelbase of 1514mm and a seat height of 810mm.

Mileage

The Ducati Scrambler 1100 has a fuel tank capacity of 15 litres. In terms of mileage, the bike is capable of returning 14kmpl by ARAI, in BSIV guise.

Mechanical Parts

The seat height of the bike is just great. This bike has been made keeping in mind the importance of ergonomics. Thank to the slender tank and seat, sitting comfortably is an easy task. You sit in an upright posture and the handlebar is nice and wide. The foot pegs being set in the centre add to the rider’s comfort. The Pirelli tyres offer loads of grip on and off the tarmac. However, wind blast can be felt. Every time you quick shift a gear, the front wheel tends to lift. However, when you open the throttle, the bike gets light and becomes easy to turn. The front suspension feel soft, but the rear is quite stiff. The bike is very usable within city limits. Feedback from the Brembo brakes is great. At the front, the bike rides on fully adjustable USD forks, while the rear gets a mono shock-absorber. The Scrambler 1100 runs on 120/70 ZR-18 tyres at the front and 180/55 ZR-17 tyres at the rear.

The bike comes loaded with a slew of features like a digital instrument cluster, ABS, LED headlight, alloy wheels, pass light switch, digital trip meter, engine kill switch and an optional Termignoni exhaust.
